Me

Welcome...

This site is aimed to give you an insight into who I am, what I get up to and demonstrate my web development skills. I have been given an initial design and completed the planning, coding and content to produce the website. I hope you like it :)

I'm 20 years old and currently in my second year at 'The University of Plymouth' studying for a BSc (Hons) in Computing Informatics. I came to university after taking a year out, where I completed a snowboard instruction course so I am now a fully qualified instructor.

Take a look at the photos on Flickr. It was a pretty amazing experience

Work Placement

I have recently secured a years industrial work placement at preloaded.

I am really looking forward to this placement, I had some other offers but this job is suited much more to my interests and I can't wait to get started on some of their great projects.

My Blog

Its been a long time!

15th August 2007  |  General

Well i've been at preloaded for about 2 months now, working really hard and getting involved in some cool projects (even got my own business card now)

Thats the main reason the site has been a bit dead lately.

But the Im planning to update the site in the coming months, possibly intergrating some javascript frameworks and adding some more styles.

Flickr / Google Maps Mashup

26th April 2007  |  Tech - API's

Well its that time of year when all I have to do is revise for my exams yet I still find things to distract me from that. This week I've been playing around with the Google Maps API and my Flickr photos to create a 'Travel Map' of where I've been through my life and some locations where I hope to go in the future.

I hope you like it and it inspires you to have a go yourself. Go to Google Maps API to get started.

Easter Hols

12th April 2007  |  Holiday

I've spent the first week of April out in Tignes with my brother and some of his friends snowboarding in some of the best mountains in France this late in the season. Thats why the site has been a bit quiet for the last few weeks.

I plan to fix the final few bugs out soon, also I'll post my Tignes photos on Flickr soon.

PC arrives

23rd March 2007  |  Technology

All my components arrived today and I have spent the last few hours putting it all together. A much simpler task than I thought it would be. The most time consuming part was installing the operating system and all my drivers for various things (including the VFD), which might be a bit OTT but worth the extra cost I think.

Also I know the site has been a bit neglected lately but with so much work on at the end of term and the whole 'PC crashing' thing I've not had much time. But I hope to have all styles and the contact form finished by Sunday 1st April.

New PC :)

21st March 2007  |  Technology

After spending time looking at fixing my computer I have decided to build a new one and use some old parts to cut down on the cost. My plan is to build a home media centre PC, with this Antec case at the heart of it.

Its one of the better-looking HTPC cases I've seen and will go great sat under my hi-fi amp. Plus it's still got enough room to fit a decent machine inside it. Still I think it might be a bit of a challenge to build as I haven't built a computer before, but we'll see.

No more PC :(

19th March 2007  |  Technology

Last night I decided that I would upgrade my operating system to Windows Vista (only because I can get it for free from my university). The install started easily enough and was running fine till I was told I had to remove my antivirus and restart.

Unfortunately upon restart my computer decided it didn't want to show anything on the screen. After a few hours of trying different components I've found out that either my mobo or CPU has gone. Either way it's going to cost me. At least my MacBook has saved the day, and I haven't lost much work.

Slightly worried...

11th March 2007  |  Technology

Bad news for MacBooks, well not really just a one off but its a pretty worrying sight to see a MacBook like this, just hope mine never decides to catch fire.

I recently downloaded this widget (iStat Pro) which can read the temperature of you CPU and the speed of your fans, which is pretty handy when your macBook is burning up in you lap. As hot as mine does get it cools down pretty quick if you leave it for a few minutes.

Busy weekend (part 2)

11th March 2007  |  Technology

Also on my travels to London this weekend, I had the fun experience of playing on my brother's new Nintendo Wii, which was much more fun than I expected.

I definitely think 'Wii Bowling' is my new top sport, although I'm slightly worried that my Wii fitness age is 47. Might just have to get one myself and get in training.

Visit to preloaded

11th March 2007  |  Work Placement

I went to visit my brother this weekend to have a look around preloaded to see how new media agencies are run and what job roles are available within in Web Production. I found it very informative and the people at preloaded were more than happy to help with answering my questions.

It's true they really do 'do nice things', I look forward to visiting again.

A Big Hello!

11th March 2007  |  New

So here it is, www.peterandall.com is finally live (well sort of), it's only taken a few months but I've managed to get it done around all my university work.

I've currently only got one style down at the moment. But I hope to have the following styles finished soon, I'm sure you'll find one to your taste.

My Myspace is currently in a bit of a sad state as I don't really have time to maintain it at the moment, but feel free to send me a message or you could Facebook me if you like.

Pete.
